Make History Fun

Paper dolls are fun for every age. You don't have to have the latest high-priced plastic doll to hold a child's interest either. They're great also for teaching about the history and fashions of an era. In this collection of paper dolls are gathered dolls from the late colonial and revolutionary period of American history in the late 1700s.

Whether you're a paper doll collector, a fashion buff or want to use them to teach your children American history, there's something for you. There are dolls of famous names like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and others including colonial families and fashions.

Many of these are designed and illustrated by famous paper doll artist Tom Tierney. His dolls are becoming collector's items.

George Washington and Family

George Washington, a Virginian gentleman planter, would become a Revolutionary War hero and the first President of the United States. This set includes Washington, his wife Martha and four children's dolls with 32 outfits of day wear and formal wear.

Thomas Jefferson and Family

Thomas Jefferson is considered one of the founding fathers of the United States. He was the main author of the Declaration of Independence, the document that laid out the reasons for America's break with England and declared America a collection of states independent of British rule.

Jefferson served prominent public roles before becoming the 3rd President of the United States including the first Secretary of State under George Washington and the second Vice President under John Adams. This set of dolls includes 10 dolls of Jefferson and his family with 26 beautifully illustrated period costumes.

American Colonial Fashions

The Colonial era fashions include more than just English-style clothing of the time. This set is representative of many different nationalities of settlers including the English, French, Dutch, German and Spanish with both male and female dolls and costumes. It includes both plain wear and fancy dress.

This would make a great addition to any collector who loves period fashion. Like many collectors, you may not want to even cut the dolls and costumes out but leave them intact for admiration and reference.

Colonial Family Dolls and Children

Making history personal for kids helps make it more interesting. They can relate to other children even if they've lived hundreds of years before they were born.

This first doll set includes three generations of an American Colonial family, eight dolls of grandparents, parents and kids. Like the other sets it includes costumes for regular day wear and more formal attire. This would be a great family activity set.

Little girls will especially love the last three sets below. The first one is another detailed design by Tom Tierney and includes one doll and eight costumes of English puritan style and Spanish dress. The last two are dolls that are dressed with reusable stickers. The first one is a set of four dolls with 16 outfits. The second is one doll with 23 costumes for different occasions. They're rated for children ages 4-8 as the stickers might not last too long with toddlers.  Enjoy all of these excellent period dolls for play or as collectibles.
