Gifts, Stocking Stuffers and Maybe a Little Something for Yourself

Do you have conservative book lovers on your gift list but not too sure about what to get them? There are so many excellent conservative authors to choose from that you're bound to find something for everyone on your list. I've presented some of some of the hottest titles here including some of my favorites. But again, there's something for the many different types of conservatives out there.

Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto
Amazon Price: $6.98
List Price: $15.00

Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto by Mark Levin

Lawyer and popular conservative talk-radio host, Mark Levin's book Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto is a bestseller for good reason. He relates in language that most could understand what constitutional-based liberty is and the forces of tyranny that wish to destroy it.

He discusses the issues at the heart of our political discourse including faith, the constitution, the free market, the welfare state, immigration, extreme environmentalism and the deeply held conservative principles of self-determination and self-preservation. I especially valued his insights into the leftist mindset he discusses with each of these issues in the book.

Going Rogue: An American Life
Amazon Price: $0.01
List Price: $28.99
America by Heart : Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag
Amazon Price: $2.39
List Price: $25.99

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and Republican vice-presidential running mate in the 2008 election, has proved the critics wrong who thought she would just fade away into oblivion after the election. She's riled up the conservative base and aggrandized the left by standing strong through every attack they've thrown her way.

Her first book, Going Rogue: An American Life, is a look at her path through the Alaska governorship and to the vice-presidential nomination. The title is in reference to her attitude that she is willing to stand up to those in her own party who don't follow conservative principles.

In her second book, America by Heart: Reflections in Family, Faith, and Flag, Palin shares her deep love of her country and why she thinks America is so special. Such pro-American sentiments have been labeled as passe by the left, but Sarah Palin isn't afraid to stand proud for her country.

Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America
Amazon Price: $5.95
List Price: $28.99
Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right
Amazon Price: $0.94
List Price: $14.95

Ann Coulter

Ann Coulter's acerbic wit and take-no-prisoners debate style have gained her many enemies from both sides of the political aisle. Some conservatives may not forgive her for her harsh words against Sarah Palin, but you definitely can't accuse the woman of avoiding controversy.

She says what she thinks. While I may not always agree with her, I think we need more conservatives like her. She's the author of many books including her most recent, Demonic: How the Liberal Mob is Endangering America, in which she exposes a mob mentality in modern liberalism.

Andrew Breitbart

Andrew Breitbart may just be the man who saved conservatism. He's brought new media to the masses of the right who are known for not necessarily embracing the newest technology. But he proved that we were just starving for a media outlet geared towards us. He believes the right should wake up and use the left's tactics against them. This has fueled his in your face style.

Creator of the Big sites—Big Hollywood, Big Journalism, Big Government, Big Peace and hopefully more to come, Breitbart revitalized the right and showed the left that we're not out of the running yet. In his book, Righteous Indignation: Excuse Me While I Save the World!, he shares how he came to be the conservative media superstar he is today.

Glenn Beck

Jon Stewart, the liberal host of the The Daily Show, has painted Glenn Beck as the mad man with the chalkboard. But Beck's fans know differently. Glenn Beck formerly hosted his own show on Fox and still hosts his wildly popular talk-radio show. He is responsible for the 9-12 Project and the Restoring Honor Rally.

He's been criticized for bringing his religion into political discussions (he's a devout Mormon) by some on both the left and the right. However, one of his strong points is bringing together people of diverse theological views under a conservative umbrella. He is very pro small government and may not always agree with establishment Republicans. He has several books, and I've linked to a couple of his most popular here.

After America: Get Ready for Armageddon
Amazon Price: $5.00
List Price: $29.95

Mark Steyn

Mark Steyn is Canadian conservative commentator also well known in the United States. He writes for the National Review and has been a guest on popular conservative shows including Rush Limbaugh and Hannity.

He's very outspoken on the Islamization of America and support of the war on terrorism. With his well-known wit in his bestselling book, After America: Get Ready for Armageddon, he outlines the decline of American culture which he says has already begun and what the world would be in store for when it happens completely.

Conservative Memoirs

Does the conservative on your gift list prefer less talk show and something more in the line of a traditional biography? There are many recent and past titles to choose from to whet their appetite for personal memoirs.

President Ronald Reagan in An American Life tells his own story including details of his presidency an political ideology. Many current politicians consider Reagan one of their biggest inspirations.

President George W. Bush was vilified regarding every aspect of 9/11, from reasonable criticism to insanity such as the truther movement. He shares his side of the story in Decision Points and the reasons behind his decisions. His wife Laura in Spoken from the Heart tells readers of her upbringing in Texas as well as thoughts on her life in the White House.

Vice President Dick Cheney has been accused of being the puppet master behind the Bush presidency among other things. He tells the story of his amazing nearly 40-year political career in In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir.

William F. Buckley may be gone but his influence on conservatism is definitely not forgotten. He was an intellectual and prolific author known for his willingness to debate liberals. He founded the National Review magazine, the nation's premier conservative publication. Miles Gone By: A Literary Autobiography is a collection of essays that follow 50 years of his personal and political life.

Michelle Malkin

Michelle Malkin started her career as a newspaper journalist in the early 1990s and has become well known in the conservative movement. She's a popular blogger and syndicated columnist as well as author. Her most recent book is Culture of Corruption: Obama and His Team of Tax Cheats, Crooks, and Cronies.

I have never watched an episode of The View, but I did see a clip with Michelle Malkin that made it worthwhile to listen to the awful hosts. That's because Malkin not only held her own but owned her spot on the show. The ladies of The View couldn't even keep up. It was classic!

Leftist Media Bias

Are you concerned about the leftist slant in the media? Well, it may go deeper than you ever thought. Author Ben Shapiro and contributor at Breitbart's Big Hollywood exposes the leftist bias against conservatives in Tinseltown in his book Primetime Propaganda: The True Hollywood Story of How the Left Took Over Your TV.

More Authors to Look For

The hardest thing about compiling this list was being able to stop. There are so many good authors out there with a conservative message, but I didn't want to make this article exceedingly long. Here are a few more you might like to research for yourself. Keep in mind that not all conservatives agree on every issue and the authors listed here and above may have widely varied viewpoints.

  • Michael Medved - former liberal turned conservative commentator.
  • Greg Gutfeld - host of Red Eye on Fox.
  • James Delingpole - British author and climate change realist, also posts on The Telegraph online.
  • Michael Savage - controversial talk-radio host banned in Britain for his opinions and author of Abuse of Power and Trickle Up Poverty.
  • Andrew Klavan - especially his Homelanders series for young adults and his more recent adult fiction.
  • Tammy Bruce - openly lesbian independent conservative and author of one of my favorites, The New Thought Police: Inside the Left's Assault on Free Speech and Free Minds.
  • Sonja Schmidt - PJTV contributor and author of Deb & Seby's Real Deal on Global Warming (a children's book).
  • Pamela Geller - author of Stop the Islamization of America and coauthor of The Post-American Presidency.
  • Ayn Rand - author of Atlas Shrugged, an inspiration to some Libertarians and Republicans alike.
  • Ron Paul - long-time politician and author of such titles as Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues that Affect Our Freedom and End the Fed.
