Love is in the Earth: A Kaleidoscope of Crystals - Book Review

When it comes to the healing power of crystals, Melody's books are well known in the field and for good reason. Her bestselling Love is in the Earth: A Kaleidoscope of Crystals (also known as LIITE) is an encyclopedia of hundreds of crystals and their metaphysical and physical attributes. This book will help new and advanced crystal practitioners alike use minerals effectively for healing and spiritual use.

There are over 700 listings of crystals and their physical and metaphysical properties. Included are astrological and numerological correspondences for each mineral.

You'll find everything from the most common stones such as clear quartz, rose quartz and amethyst to those you've never heard of. The entries are extensive, especially the quartz section which also includes advice and examples of channeling, ceremonial, meditation and healing techniques.

Melody describes the color range of the stones as well as the forms they crystallize in. You'll also learn what ailments they can be used to treat and the spiritual aspects of the minerals.

This book is more than a gathering of encyclopedic entries. The author explains how to choose crystals and gives instruction on how to prepare them for use including cleansing, charging and programming. There is a chapter on configurations. The Practical Applications and Additional Definitions sections are brief but serve as an introduction to what else you can do with crystals such as enhance meditation, balance the aura and treat other objects besides people including plants and vehicles.

While these sections aren't extensive, the individual stone listings give you additional info especially in regards to what area of the body to lay each mineral on. The only con of Love is in the Earth is that there are no pictures of the crystals. The book is already over 700 pages and to include pictures would make it too dense. However, Melody has an accompanying pictorial guide titled Love is in the Earth - Mineralogical Pictorial: Treasures of the Earth. She also has other pictorial supplements linked to below.

Melody has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in mathematics and has had a life-long interest in gems and minerals. She compiled the information in this book through a combination of research and experimentation including channeling and laying on of stones. If you're completely skeptical of information received this way, then you probably won't enjoy the book. Energy workers such as Reiki or polarity practitioners who are interested in adding crystal therapy to their work will feel right at home with LIITE.

According to the Academy of Melody Crystal Healing Instructors (TAOMCHI) webiste, Melody no longer conducts healing workshops in the USA and Canada. But she has certified instructors in her method who teach around North America. Naturally Universal in the UK also provides healing and hands-on training by instructors in Melody's lineage.

You don't need advanced training however. In her books, she encourages readers to listen to their intuition. Love is in the Earth will give you a great start in learning about the stones and developing your own healing style.
