The Effects of Rape and Incest
While much has been gained in understanding
the effects of rape and incest, there is more ground to be covered.
PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder, is being recognized as one reaction
that a person has to this trauma much like war veterans. More research has been done in regards to this and rape trauma syndrome is a diagnosis favored by some in the field.
Victims may suffer flashbacks of the experience with even the slightest trigger. Disassociation, depression, anxiety, and dissociative identity disorder are just some of the other illnesses that can result.
Rape and abuse can happen to anyone, male or female. RAINN supports survivors of both genders and their friends and families.
