Review of Crystal Wisdom by Dolfyn

Crystal therapy was at its peak in the 80s and early 90s. Dolfyn was one of the people that helped it get there. Her book Crystal Wisdom: Spiritual Properties of Crystals and Gemstones was originally a series of pamphlets. I remember seeing them in New-Age shops along with other spiritual pamphlets and correspondence charts by Dolfyn.

The age of crystal lovers isn't over however. I believe that while it may not be the fad it once was, it still has even more serious dedicants and now more people incorporate it into their alternative health regimen, metaphysical practice but also in ritual and magic as well.

While Crystal Wisdom isn't an encyclopedia of crystals like some other popular titles and it was published in book form in 1989, I think this is still a good book for beginners over 20 years later. Below, I discuss the essentials of each chapter.

Dolfyn encourages people to remember that there is no exact way to work with crystals and that direct communication with them is the best way to learn how to work with them. Chapter 1 begins with how to tune to crystals, cleansing and charging them.

Inspiring versus Programming

Dolfyn says she regrets the role she played in popularizing the word programming when it comes to crystals. People seem to have misunderstood the word and feel it means a cold use of the crystal. She started using the word inspiring to lessen the negative connotation. She gives exercises on how to inspire the crystal for a certain use after you've tuned into it first.

Besides the sections that cover crystal and gemstone meanings, Dolfyn's meditations and guided spiritual journeys are the best parts of the book in my opinion. She has a gift with this. In this chapter, she first gives tips on meditation techniques. The first guided meditation is a journey to get in touch with crystal spirits. She then goes on to discuss how crystals are used in healing, protection, projecting energy and prayer.

In this chapter, Dolfyn helps readers get in touch with teaching spirits that reside in some crystals with a guided meditation called Seeing the Teaching Crystal Spirit. She gives techniques to learn your own deeper history of past lives.

These chapters explain the healing and metaphysical properties of crystals and gemstones. Not only does she explain the properties of certain stones but also different types of crystals such as those that are double terminated, channeling, phantom, pixelated and more. In many of the entries, there is a poem written as if through the voice of the crystal itself.

There is also a short list of stones that may not have been too familiar at the time the book was published. The reference chart is a sort of index. The stones are divided into sections based on the metaphysical aspects such as healing, communication, spirit, grounding and empowering.

The book is still available. I've seen it available on Amazon and eBay occasionally. The publisher listed on the book is Earthspirit, Inc. d/b/a Sacred Earth in California.

I cannot find information on the publisher or the author. She seems to have stopped publishing books around 1996 according to the books listed on Amazon. In fact, I'm only assuming the author is female. Regardless, Dolfyn has left a legacy with this book for crystal enthusiasts.

My personal rating for Crystal Wisdom is 4 out of 5 stars. While it may not be packed with info on a lot of stones, it has great information on techniques on working with them and developing your own style.
