Learn How to Quickly Read Tarot Cards: Book Review of Tarot in Ten Minutes
69
Have you ever wondered if you could read your own tarot cards? Or have you been to a reader who proceeded to tell you about your past lives when all you wanted to know was if you'll get that job you've applied for?
Tarot in Ten Minutes by R.T. Kaser is a practical guide the most popular divination system today. The author makes this sometimes daunting topic easily accessible to people interested in the tarot but who didn't think they could do a reading for themselves.
This book gets to the nitty gritty, real-life concerns that we all have.
Can You Really Learn the Tarot in Ten Minutes?
You can't learn all the mysteries of this powerful divination system and tool for spiritual growth in 10 minutes. The beauty of this book is that it doesn't claim that you will. It does, however, get you started in using the tarot quickly.
There are 29 readings dealing with all the usual suspects; love, money and work. Instead of using the entire deck for each of these topics, Kaser has you use certain sets. These sets usually include some of the major arcana along with one of the four suits - the cups, wands, swords and coins.
This may seem like a strange way of teaching at first, but it's actually quite a clever use of repetition. For instance, you learn that the cups are often associated with love and relationships.
Some of the reading titles are:
- How's my love life?
- How will this relationship turn out?
- How successful will I be?
- What should I be when I grow up?
- What is my life's purpose?
As you can see, the author tackles the hottest topics, and that's just 5 out of 29 reading titles.
Tarot Deck Selection
The Rider-Waite tarot deck is the most well known, and this book uses illustrations from that deck. But you can use any deck you prefer. The author's definitions don't depend on one deck.
Personally, I think it's wise for those new to tarot to start with a classic deck so they have a frame of reference to start from, especially if they want to delve deeper into this art with other books and training. You'll find there are hundreds of decks to choose from, however, so the choice is yours.
Weigh In On the Issue
Do you think tarot cards should be used at parties?

There are different schools of thought about how best to use the tarot. Some think it should only be used to bring enlightenment to the user. Others don't take it quite that seriously and still others fall somewhere in between.
I think making learning fun opens up the possibility for student to take their studies further. But since I don't believe there is an inherent evil in the cards, I have no problem with them being used at parties for entertainment.
In fact, this would be a great book to use in groups. I was first introduced to it in such a setting. The tarot teacher I had used it with his students along with his own material and he's been a reader for over 20 years. He definitely knew the power of making the subject fun.
It would, however, be a mistake to see Tarot in Ten Minutes as completely fluffy. If you're looking for a more metaphysically oriented introduction to the tarot, then it probably isn't for you. But this book is a great start for a fun, practical, no-nonsense approach to tarot that will give you quick answers to the questions you really ask that have nothing to do if you were King Arthur in a past life.
