Cetaphil Skin Cleanser and Moisturizer Product Review

By

Dermatologists Recommend Cetaphil

There's a good reason that Cetaphil is one of the most highly recommended products by dermatologists on the market. It's gentle enough for sensitive skin as well as for those with skin problems such as rosacea and dermatitis.

Galderma Laboratories, the company that manufactures Cetaphil, has a growing line of products. But this review is focused on the two that I use - Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser and Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion.

Mild Products for Sensitive Skin at Fair Prices

Over 10 years ago, a friend told me about a book she was reading that reviewed beauty and skin care products. This was before the internet was so huge and you could check online for what others have to say about a particular product. That book was Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me by Paula Begoun which is in its 7th edition as of this writing. My friend found a listing for Cetaphil that stated the line had some of the best cleansers and moisturizers for the price. I always had to change skincare products every 6 months to a year because they would either begin to cause acne or redness and itching. I decided to give Cetaphil a try.

Both the Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser and Moisturizing Lotion claim to be fragrance-free, non-comedogenic (meaning it won't clog your pores). They both feel light on my skin. They are also safe for use on the rest of the body. I haven't had an acne breakout as a result of using Cetaphil. After over 10 years, I have not switched from Cetaphil products for daily use to any other products nor do I have plans of doing so.

The general price range for these two products at drugstores and larger stores like Wal-Mart is between $8 to $13.  This is very fair for such quality products that can last for several months depending on how much you use.  I don't often wear makeup, so I don't have to use a lot of the cleanser.

Possible Problems with Cetaphil

Cetaphil products contain nut oils such as macadamia. While these products are safe for most people's skin, others with known allergies to nut oils should practice caution before using any Cetaphil.

It should be noted that in the most recent addition of Ms. Begoun's book, she gives a so-so rating to the Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion because of the fragrance-free claim. She states that the product contains "farnesol, an ingredient whose chief function is adding fragrance to a product." I'm still very happy with the lotion and don't plan on stopping its use.
